Outstanding fitting skating boots are not created accidentally. They’re designed to fit a skaters feet the way feet should be fitted. This was the philosophy of Joseph Spiteri when he started making hand lasted skating boots in 1963.

Joseph started making skating boots in 1948 when the company he was working for decided to produce skating boots as an adjunct to its shoemaking operations. As a seasoned cobbler, he adapted to the production of skating boots quickly. Soon afterwards he became the head designer of skate for his employer.

From 1948 to 1961 he was honing his skills in pattern design and customizing glass to fit customer speak to unparalleled levels. By 1962 his employer and partner succumbed to cancer and through to sales of the company’s ownership Joseph decided he could start his own company.

By August 1963 Joseph started manufacturing SP-Teri Boots in his own small factory. his design of boots and the remarkable fitting characteristics of the SP-Teri boots became an immediate success the company was sitting on a 10 week backlog of orders by the following year. Skate shops along the West Coast and all across the Midwest and East Coast where carrying SP-Teri boots. By the third year of business, Joseph was out selling his former employer.
